Connect with nature at a jungle lodge

If you've had enough of the noise and pollution in your city, look no further. The forest is the perfect place to retreat to, and there are several jungle lodges in India and abroad where you can spend a weekend amidst a wide range of flora and fauna. You need to be covered up for your jungle safaris and long walks, so pick a long-sleeved t-shirt that goes with your natural surroundings and pair it with a pair of trousers that will let you walk around endlessly without the slightest discomfort. Cosy slip-ons are easy to take off when you want to feel the grass between your toes or wade into a watering hole. Remember to stay hydrated and take loads of pictures of all the bugs and deer (and tigers, if you're lucky) you encounter on your travels. Pants, Forever 21; Flower print t-shirt, Zara; Shoes, STEPpings available at Jabong.

Breathe in some fresh mountain air on a trek

There's nothing quite like the exquisite solitude when you're one of only three or four people for miles around, climbing up a hill in silence, with nothing in your lungs but clean mountain air. There are several three-day treks you can go on, and it's one of our favourite ways to spend a holiday. Functionality comes first when you pick a trekking outfit, but lucky for you, loungewear and sports gear have taken a turn for the better when it comes to style. Don't forget a quirky beanie to perk up those inevitable Instagram selfies (we know you aren't really going to forget the world completely for three days, so let's just embrace it). Track pants, Nike available at Jabong; Shoes and hoodie, Quechua available at Decathlon; Polka dot beanie, Forever 21.

Swim and party on the beach

This is undoubtedly the most popular kind of weekend getaway out there, and for good reason. Beach holiday spots like Goa make the perfect place to hang out with friends and lovers, and at night, there are usually quite a few happening parties you can go to. Don't waste time changing outfits when you could be having another drink on your lounge chair instead. Maxi skirts are the perfect beach-to-bar wardrobe staple, and a great swimsuit can easily double up as a top. Accessories like a great straw hat, a pair of pastel sunnies and a statement necklace will complete the look. Swimsuit, Pretty Secrets available at Jabong; Maxi skirt, Mango; Hat and necklace, Forever 21; Sandals, Wet Blue available at Myntra; Sunglasses, Aldo available at Majorbrands.

Be a biker chick on the open road

Got a bike and a yearning for the wind in your hair? Get out there and discover the smaller towns and villages around your city. You've got to wear a moto jacket, and we are head-over-heels in love with this red leather version from Mango. Add distressed jeans and black sneakers, and you've got yourself a great outfit that will protect you from the elements while upping your cool-girl quotient exponentially. Leather biker jacket, Mango; Tank top, My Addiction available at Limeroad; Distressed slim-fit jeans, Zara; Shoes, Forever 21.

Curl up by the fire at a hill station

India is full of hill stations, from bustling tourist hubs like Manali to peaceful hill towns down South like Kodaikanal. While trekking and skiing are undoubtedly great fun, sometimes you just want to cosy up next to a bonfire and play cards with your family or read a book. Hot chocolate and long strolls (followed by more hot chocolate, of course) are just the icing on the cake. Stay warm but stylish on a holiday like this – you're not going to be spending hours on your feet, anyway. Jeans, Mast & Harbour available at Myntra; Asymmetric sweater, Mango; Double-breasted short coat and leather biker booties, Zara.

Shop and party in style in a big city

Going to a big city for the weekend? Whether it's Mumbai or Hong Kong you're heading to, you're probably going to spend the day shopping and lunching, and dance the night away at a happening club. Wear an outfit that works for both kinds of outings, so you can spend an extra hour at your new favourite store or art gallery rather than heading back to your temporary pad to change for the evening. Skirt, Forever 21; Embellished tank top and red handbag, Mango; Platform sandals, Zara.

Get to know another side of India at a rural retreat

A rural retreat is a truly different way to spend your holiday. Find out if you can volunteer with an NGO or maybe you'd rather stay at a resort set up around a village (there are several of these). You don't want to stick out like a sore thumb in these places, so go for Indian outfits that are no less packed with style than your moto jackets and platform heels. Turquoise and pink kurta, Kilol available at Limeroad; White leggings, Forever 21; Pink sling bag, Nell available at Jabong.

Sightsee and relax at a tropical paradise

Several South-East Asian destinations are cultural hubs with intriguing, beautiful, historical sights to see and great nightlife for after museum hours. If you're headed to a place like Sri Lanka, Bali or Cambodia this long weekend, you can just live in these teeny tiny shorts that are as comfortable as they are cute. A striped t-shirt with interesting detailing on the back is a great way to mix in another print. Sunnies are a must, so why not choose one with cool geometric frames? Also pack a pretty dress or two and a pair of wedge heels for dinners out. Ikat print shorts, Forever 21; Striped t-shirt with twisted back, Mango; Sandals, Clarks; Sunglasses, Zara.
