Studio X Mumbai in Kitab Mahal will showcase the works of nine artists who were born in 1980 and 1981, the years that the award-winning Salman Rushdie novel Midnight’s Children was published. The midnight’s children of the novel are born as India and Pakistan come into existence on August 14 and 15 1947, and Rushdie himself was born in 1947. Hosted by writer and curator Girish Shahane, this exhibition of art on August 15th is based on themes from Rushdie’s novel. In case you haven’t read the book, the show opens with readings from the book and a discussion.

Space out from Mumbai

We’re not quite sure where Cloud Surf is, but we are more than happy to go there. Described as the place to be if you want to get away from the bustling city of Mumbai, Cloud Surf is surrounded by lush greenery and is abundant in waterfalls and streams. On August 16 and 17, Spaced Out Spirits has organised a trip to this mysterious place with the promise of leaving the city far behind. Highlights of this trip include camping, bonfires, floating tents, acoustic music and local cuisine. Once you watch the video, we don’t think it really matters whether you know the whereabouts of this magical place or not.

Accessible to those living in Mumbai and Pune, Sula Vineyards is hosting a guided winery tour and wine tasting session in their tasting cellar this weekend. And since you shouldn’t be driving after drinking, check yourself into the Beyond Vineyard Resort owned by Sula Wines. As the wine continues to flow, delightful dining options, a luxurious spa and plenty of other activities will keep you busy through your stay.

Tapas, trumpets and techno

Arola, Mumbai’s authentic Spanish restaurant at JW Marriott is hosting two Arola Musica nights teamed with tapas. The restaurant, helmed by Michelin-starred Spanish chef Sergi Arola, is a must-visit. And there couldn’t be a better time than August 15 or 16 to enjoy delectable finger food backed by tech-house DJ Qwiver, trumpet and saxophone player Shantilal Gandharva, and Mikhail D’Souza, who is much loved by Mumbai’s dance community.

Retreat to the hills

Whether you live in Mumbai or Pune, make a dash for the Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat & Spa located in Shillim. Nestled in the serene and untouched landscape of the Sahyadri mountain range in the Western Ghats, this hotel is a sanctuary of peace. Get pampered silly at the in-house spa that offers a host of ancient and contemporary therapies, and gorge on some grand fare. The best part is that you won’t need to burn a hole in your wallet with this mini vacation because on offer is a 20% discount if you stay for the weekend. Breakfast is included in this cost, as is the Internet, should you need to get some work done in this sanctuary of peace. You’ll also get a 50% discount if you choose to dine at the hotel.

Experience India’s first Swoop Swing

Last year, thrill seekers from Mumbai and Pune were in for a treat when Della Adventure Park opened its doors. Located between Mumbai and Pune, it’s a short drive from either of the cities. Interestingly, the park is home to India’s first Swoop Swing, that’s anything but a run-of-the-mill playground swing. This 30-metre-high ride is only 10 metres shorter than the world’s first Swoop Swing in New Zealand and is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Later, try your hand at other activities like bungee trampoline, archery and quad bike racing. After your jaunt at the Della Adventure Park, head to the nearby Della Resorts to unwind your tired self. A spa and excellent dining options will be just what you need after this adventurous day.

Embrace the sky

Nirvana Adventures in Kamshet near Lonavala is well known among adventure enthusiasts as the one-stop shop for paragliding. They have organised a trek to a pristine waterfall in the lush neighbourhood on August 15. Perfect for Mumbai and Pune residents, this all-day trip includes a good dose of adventure, lunch and other refreshments.

If you missed the amazing #BeerNBurgerFest14 at Mumbai’s Woodside Inn, you’re in luck because the festival runs once again this weekend, through August 18. Besides the usual menu, on offer are five popular burgers from the previous festival, including an Italian pepperoni burger. A complimentary glass of beer courtesy the Gateway Brewing Co. will be served with each burger order. So what will you be doing this long weekend? Share your plans in the comments below and let us know if we missed anything!
